LÖSEV – the Foundation for Children with Leukemia – proudly announced that its official statement has been published by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) during the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). This milestone highlights LÖSEV’s ongoing efforts to ensure equal access to childhood cancer treatment worldwide.

Founded in 1998, LÖSEV is one of Turkey’s leading non-governmental organizations, providing a holistic care model for children with leukemia and other cancers. This model integrates advanced medical treatment, education, psychosocial and financial support, and nutritional care, transforming the lives of more than 110,000 children and families across Türkiye.

Each year, nearly 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer globally. While modern medicine has made many forms of childhood cancer treatable, systemic inequalities and weak healthcare systems in low-resource countries mean that many children still face delayed diagnoses and limited access to treatment. For too many, a cancer diagnosis remains a death sentence—not because of the disease itself, but because of barriers to care.

At LÖSANTE Hospital, operated by LÖSEV, a five-year survival rate of 94% has been achieved by combining world-class medical care with comprehensive educational and psychosocial services. This success demonstrates that when children’s holistic needs are addressed, survival rates and quality of life rise significantly. LÖSEV’s approach shows what is possible when health is treated as a human right, not a privilege.

As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary under the 2025 HLPF theme “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science-based solutions to leave no one behind”, LÖSEV urges the global community to take bold action.

LÖSEV’s Policy Recommendations to the United Nations

Global Expansion of Holistic Care Models – Implement integrated healthcare, education, and social support for children with life-threatening illnesses.

UN Recognition of the International Week for Children with Leukemia – Held annually during the third week of May, this awareness week, initiated by LÖSEV, combats stigma and promotes global solidarity.

Stronger International Partnerships – Ensure that childhood cancers are fully integrated into Universal Health Coverage and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) agendas.

Investment in Community-Based Solutions – Fund survivor-led initiatives, anti-stigma campaigns, and data-driven outreach programs that empower families and local communities.

“Every child deserves access to life-saving treatment, education, and a future filled with hope, regardless of where they live,” LÖSEV’s statement declares. “By advancing science, fostering solidarity, and upholding human dignity, we can close the gap in childhood cancer care.”
